This Time 03:27
It’s taken forever to see you like this To know what I’m missing on those nights all alone It’s taken forever to know you are home To know I am home and it will always exist This time I can’t believe That it’s taken so long Just to wake up and remember That you are my victory And I won’t let you go Until the earth starts to tremble And we all, and we all fall off I am in awe of you And I intend to Be more what you crave Yeah, I want your soul to flower With all these years and circumstance yeah it’s been complicated Go back to the time we started out and it was something pure But I cannot forget your eyes You’ve always helped me to survive This time I can’t believe That it’s taken so long Just to wake up and remember That you are my victory And I won’t let you go Until the earth starts to tremble And we all, and we all fall off

Before 03:22
And as we fade, so will the memories we’ve made So will it all, and like a candle burn Into dust of once formed things But before you go… Save me from a life filled with regret From a fate we never met and always wonder We’re made of medicine And it’s the cure to each other’s sins I just hope we learn to let each other in We always knew that these days would have to come But we cast the thought behind the sun In hopes they’d burn when out of sight But in time, we knew would come the night I’ve learned these thousand times we’ve said goodbye That you are my sugar-coated sigh Forever, always, but not quite yet Save me from a life filled with regret From a fate we never met and always wonder We’re made of medicine And it’s the cure to each other’s sins I just hope we learn to let each other in

The Eyes 04:28
We’ve wasted years Should have made this vision real Where you would be leaning up on me Your eyes watching this unfold You’re waiting there with eyes filled up with memories that blind you Our love was always aligned (Away away away) But you were never mine (Away away) Can you help me find A way, a way out? Do you still see me? As much as you’d like to think it This story’s not black & white It might have felt that way at first But we are part of an ending that fate left behind Our love was always aligned (Away away away) But you were never mine (Away away) Can you help me find A way, a way out? Do you still see me? We live as cracks on the floor It’s not enough and it’s broken But we would never know that this would always be A storm that melted away An unfinished book that we started We can’t bear to look but We can never leave Have I let you down? I thought that you would be here soon Have I let you down or did you Fade away in this fight? Ashamed to even feel this Consumed by everything As we rewind Replay this; replay this Eternally.

Brand New 03:46
Hold them all You know what lies in wait Before it is too late, ‘cause we are prone to wonder So much more To understand before We’re left to watch the veil flutter gently in their wake And I know now We lost the plot a long time ago Collect your things ‘Cause time is coming To untie these strings To the lives we’re given And I know now We lost the plot a long time ago We’re left to do what calls our hearts In spite of this, we let our roots get buried deep And knowing that we’ll all depart We’re consumed by this notion of our fate That we create We’re living in wait… We’re living in wait. Collect your things ‘Cause time is coming To untie these strings To the lives we’re given And I know now We lost the plot a long time ago

Hello 03:08
You and the sunlight in your hair Linger in my mind You let the world die when you left And blamed it on me An endless game, just running around We fall apart… Let’s trade problems, you and me We’ll put on a smile and we’ll make believe That it’s all better now That we’re all cured somehow Show me yours, I’ll show you mine We’ll pick apart our demons And maybe down the line We’ll move on… Just lay here and see the light spilling in Golden shadows across our bodies tangled there It’s a place in our minds We’ve been there alone for quite some time So let’s meet up far away in another life to make this real Let’s trade problems, you and me We’ll put on a smile and we’ll make believe That it’s all better now That we’re all cured somehow Show me yours, I’ll show you mine We’ll pick apart our demons And maybe down the line We’ll move on…
6.
These days I’ve come to learn the awful truth That there will always be another one of you As much as your smile denies it, you know I see through your frail disguises Aside from the fall, I think I’ve been alright Despite This feeling that I have been wasting all This light Oh, you promised me Oh, that you’d always be there And in the end, we move along but don’t forget The simple words replaying over in our heads We are in motion Oh, you will not be Oh, the end of me I’ve rebuilt these walls and patched up the holes I’ve locked this gate Oh, until better days
7.
Would you open your eyes and see That you left me alone in the same room The one that we built together (when we thought we had time) We’d sit and decide our fate Without taking a step towards it And knew we were both to blame And when she’s near Will you look away, will you look away? (further than this life) That we hold so dear And when she leaves Will you be okay, will you be okay After the fall? You somehow expected me to be The one with all the answers Circumstance we shared the same I was just as scared and powerless Did you mean everything you said Before this separation? If I had known how many years would come to pass without resolution I’d take a few more risks and stop sitting still like this If I had known how much your eyes would haunt my waking hours I’d tear down every structure in our way, and lead us home And when she’s near Will you look away, will you look away? (further than this life) That we hold so dear And when she leaves Will you be okay, will you be okay After the fall?
8.
Living life from a backseat view And never closer Being there with you is not something I could do Burning time with my back to you Looking for answers In longing for the past but neglecting what’s ahead You said “look forward to the things we all dreamed of when we were young…” When we were younger, the world made sense in every way The skies looked brighter and we felt so free The years bring wisdom but the dimming of the light came along And we all took our separate paths; we travel them alone Do we believe in the world we knew Or the one that now stands before us? Do we enjoy this life Or live it like they told us to? …live it like they told us to We’re living on our strings Like they told us to Self-aware as I mourn my fading youth Even writing these words down, my eyes burn This life of love and loss looks balanced from afar But inside, it burns… Do we believe in the world we knew Or the one that now stands before us? Do we enjoy this life Or live it like they told us to? We fall.

Warrior 03:16
Inside your shelter, you pray for something more But when the time comes, your broken heart exposes its claws Who you are, who you are I’ll never know Who you are, who you are And I’ll save the light that guided you here Embrace the fight; enjoy the night I’ll say goodnight, and leave you here Embrace the fight; enjoy the night You shrink behind your mask again I’d love to see your eyes… These thoughts will rust and fall away You’ll stand there waiting These memories will fall away And I’ll save the light that guided you here Embrace the fight; enjoy the night I’ll say goodnight, and leave you here Embrace the fight; enjoy the night

Kodokushi 03:51
I gave my life to someone else They placed it on their highest shelf So beautiful, so fragile yet So poorly used, never broken in One day our eyes began to dwell On other things; we’d never tell They glazed over as we lived inside The confines of our feeble minds I only get home when I crash into you Such endless comfort you bring to me But I am the mountain, and you’re the breeze What if I can’t return the favour? Such astounding debt Someone you haven’t met… I gave my life to someone else They placed it on their highest shelf So beautiful, so fragile yet So poorly used, never broken in One day our eyes began to dwell On other things; we’d never tell They glazed over as we lived inside The confines of our feeble minds

You see how it ended I’m asking for rest so we can lock this door for good Like we know we should And though the pages still ache with words unsaid They’ll have to remain that way I am violently shaking, these tears have been falling like rain The water’s meant for the lawns of your heart, but it’s wasted the same It’s dried up We fade out A cutscene of your house Where we sat, and waited For this to go somewhere. Somewhere… You see how it ended I’m asking for rest so we can lock this door for good Like we know we should And though the pages still ache with words unsaid They’ll have to remain that way When your heart has finally packed up and moved on So discoloured from all the times we’ve left it out in the rain Just remember that we were just too weak to move on We’re still standing there You see how it ended I’m asking for rest so we can lock this door for good Like we know we should And though the pages still ache with words unsaid They’ll have to remain that way

about

Equals Not is an emotional whirlwind of melodic melancholy and energetic ferocity.

After taking the longest break they’ve had since their inception in ’09, Johannesburg-based alternative rock outfit Climate Control have taken the reigns and served up their sophomore full-length album, Equals Not.

The album is a product of over four years of material, shows, growth, and overcoming hurdles. Climate Control used the time away from the music to recharge its batteries and gain some new perspectives on life, goals, the industry, and priorities. Although following the departure of founding drummer Jacques du Toit, which was a substantial blow to the band, the new release has served as a beacon of motivation and excitement for what’s still to come.

Equals Not also marks a departure from the band’s production history, as it was recorded and produced by frontman Nic Gonzalez. All other aspects, such as album artwork and videos, were also handled by bassist Wesley Smuts & guitarist Luca Zeeman respectively. This is the first time the band have not recorded with long-time producer Clint Watts – a decision borne from a combination of both needing to make more strategic financial moves, and wanting to tackle the material from a different angle.

“We’ve pretty much jumped in the deep end with deciding to handle everything ourselves for this album, but it was the only way that really made sense for us to pick up the pieces and move forward,” says Nic. “The album name & material within are all stories and statements around the idea that life can and will mess you up in various ways, but that none of those experiences or that pain amounts to your whole story or who you ultimately are or become.”

With new drummer Ricky Dunningham in the fold, Climate Control are gearing up to bring a new energy to their live shows, and hope that the album resonates with & impacts listeners as much as it has for themselves.
